Submit an Article

We accept articles and items for publication or for review for the quarterly review and the Web site. Contributors and writers receive no material compensation other than free copies of the issue in which their article or review appears. If they are a subscriber, a one issue extension is applied to their subscription.
Contributors are solely responsible for the accuracy and documentation of their research, and the opinions expressed in their articles.

What are we looking for?

Articles or items on aspects of the civilian and military material culture of the mid-nineteenth century (particularly items in existence between 1860-1865).
Any examination of how these items and /or their technology affects the social culture of the period.
Product reviews of reproduction items of civilian and military material culture of the mid-nineteenth century (particularly items in existence between 1860-1865). Reviewers who produce a specific item may not review that item or that same item of any other merchant or supplier.
Reviews of books, video tapes, electronic media, or any other vehicle providing resource information on the material, technology, commerce, manufacturing and social influence of mid-nineteenth century material culture (both civilian and military).

How can it be submitted?

Email with an attached WORD for Windows file (or a file convertible to WORD for Windows), or
3.5" floppy disk as above, or
hardcopy (this includes typed, handwritten, pasted with letters cut from magazines, etc...but you'd better have resources and footnotes!)
Graphics accompanying the article should be camera-ready or scannable. Include an e-mail address or phone number with all submissions.
Where?
electronically — thedog@watchdogreview.com or gwjchris@earthlink.net
land mail — PO Box 1675, Warren, MI 48090-1675
Style and format?
We assume that almost everyone uses a word processor. Do not let that stop you if you prefer to write or type it. We will take care of it.
Those who use a word processor or PC can use whatever typeface and font size... it will be converted anyway. Try to avoid any extra space-bar spaces, extra carriage returns, extra tabs, more than one space after a period at the end of a sentence, etc. Use em-dashes, en-dashes and ellipses. The title should not be in all caps. Do not indent paragraphs with spaces or a tab, but use the word processor’s indent tab. A comprehensive guide to preparing articles is available by hardcopy, but we are not out to make writing articles for the DOG an ordeal.
Since email has limited typographical capabilities, make sure you are clear about punctuation.
Hey, we're the editors, let us have some fun! ARF!
